The First Television Recordings

©DFMcLean 1998

I've been interested in early television for many years and have successfully recovered the world's first recordings of television (ou en francais). The earliest were made by John Logie Baird in the late 1920's and were experimental. In June 1996, I restored a privately recorded disc claiming to be of Television dated 1933. The restoration took most of the following month and the results are worth checking out. In early 1998, a collection of eleven  further recordings were found and restored by me soon after.  Amongst the artists is Betty Bolton, the first performer on BBC Television on its opening night in 1932.

About Me

My day job is European Director of a Consulting Practice with EDS UK Ltd.

After 14 years with Logica, I joined HP in 1996 as a Principal Consultant looking after HP's Professional Services interest in the Royal Navy. When HP started out in e-Business in 1997 , I took over the position of Programme Manager within the Professional Services Organisation (PSO) for e-Business Consulting in the UK.

I have been involved for many years in the development of advanced computer systems and for over three years managed a division of Logica UK Ltd. The picture here shows me receiving the British Computer Society Award from the Duke of Kent for a video workstation that I designed.

I have been working in industry since 1975 after graduation from the University of Glasgow. I was on the design team of the CT Scanner at EMI Research Labs. Here I am manipulating a prototype Radio Therapy Planning system which EMI marketed back in 1981.

Out of hours I have been searching back for my family roots (I was born and brought up in Scotland) and when the skies are clear(ish) at my home, I like to do a bit of planet-watching. However you will get a better idea of my interests from my links.
